The recent market pullback provided opportunities to make changes to my holdings. I sold a few high yielders to purchase dividend growers.
In my Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA), I held NorthWest Healthcare REIT (NWH-UN) and RioCan REIT (REI-UN). Both companies pay monthly income to their investors. I chose to sell these holding to purchase shares of TD Bank (TD) and Bank of Montreal (BMO). Although the banks provide lower yield than the REITs, they offer higher dividend growth. I will also sell call options to create additional income.
In my margin account, I sold my TD shares and bought 84 additional shares of Keyera Corp (KEY.TO) to bring my total holding to 700 shares. I also purchased 200 shares of TransCanada Corp and sold call call options. I used the additional $3,100 cash in my account to reduce my line of credit.
I added an exciting company to my collection. I bought 80 shares of Hershey (HSY) for a long-term hold. I will purchase additional shares after I sell Wal-Mart (WMT) when I take assignment on my Nov $77.50 calls.
I rolled my 5 Nov EMA $36 calls to Feb to avoid early assignment. The following day, my 3 May EMA $36 calls were assigned forcing me to sell 300 shares of Emera Corp prior to the ex dividend date. I purchased 300 shares of Peyto Exploration (PEY.TO) at $31.80 with the proceeds and sold 3 Nov $32 calls.
